Home Cruising My Infinity

My Infinity

by slapshot

Took a run in Small Slam to Fort Pierce today in ideal conditions – sunny, about 80, light breeze – marvelous. Gawked at a monster mega-yacht getting service at the Derecktor yard in Fort Pierce.

It is called Infinity, and it is a 383- foot 2022 megayacht built by Oceanco in the Netherlands. It was built for $300 million or so by Eric Smidt, the founder of Harbor Freight Tools. You can bring 22 of your closest pals if you charter it, and you will be taken care of by somewhere between 36 and 43 crew.

If you buy an expensive $1,000 tool at Harbor Freight, you will be chipping in for about one second of Infinity’s $30 million annual operating costs.

Fun to see a colossal yacht, but I was utterly happy to be on  SMALL SLAM as I barreled back to Stuart at 28 knots, Yamahas purring at 3800 rpm, Small Slam barely noticing tiny white caps whipped up by a soft, 10 knot breeze.
